Received your FNS number? Get a card reader!

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WV DHHR) was recently awarded a small grant that would support the wireless POS equipment expenses for a limited number of SNAP authorized farmers markets (FM) and direct marketing farmers (DMF). Available funding will be used to cover EBT-only point of sale (POS) equipment on a monthly basis, including setup of the equipment and monthly expenses for processing the EBT transactions.  The wireless POS equipment will be awarded to qualifying farmers markets or direct marketing farmers on a first-come, first-served basis.

You should apply if:

1.    You can support AT&T Cellular Service.

2.    You’re a new FM/DMF to the SNAP market with FNS Merchant Certification.

3.    You are a Certified Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Merchant without equipment.

4.    You are not an FNS Merchant and you need assistance with obtaining certification.

Head to the WV DHHR website to learn more. You can find the application for equipment here.

Another option is to apply for equipment via MarketLink. Through MarketLink, you can apply for the grant program to cover the reader, processing and app fees. For more resources, head over to the Farmers Market Coalition's website.
